A line of elementary students anxiously wait to donate their money to the Dreamcatcher's club so they can wear their pajamas to school or get a streak of color put in their hair.

On Friday May 14, the Dreamcatcher’s club held a fundraiser at Glenyermo Elementary School to raise money to grant new dreams. Glenyermo students could pay $1 to wear pajamas to school, or get a streak of color in their hair.

“The school only has about 420 kids and we raised around $700, so that is awesome!” said Dreamcatcher’s president, Caitlin Crommett.

The money raised from this fundraiser granted the dream of Leonardo Flores, a terminal cancer patient. It allowed him to go with his family to Disneyland for the day.  Mr. Flores greatly appreciated that the club was able to take not only himself, but his three children, as well as his two grandchildren to Disneyland. The next couple of weeks we will be very busy for the Dream Catchers Club. President Caitlin Crommett is taking on three new wishes. The first is for a woman who has recently become more vision impaired. She would like to be able to read and do crosswords without straining her eyes. Instead of eye surgery her wish is simple; prescription lenses that can help her see. Junior Jackie Jacobs has volunteered her time to call optometrists to look for the best deal.

Jacobs says, “Dream Catchers is great because I get to meet and have direct contact with people I’m helping. I know that what I’m doing makes a difference in people’s lives.”

The next wish the club has to fulfill is for a man that liked to go fishing when he was younger, but no longer has the boat to do so. Addy Hoskins offered to donate her family’s boat for the day to make the wish come true.

The last wish that needs to be granted is simple, but expensive. A woman that has only been given two weeks to live wants to die at home instead of dying at a nursing home. She wants to pass away close to her disabled son. This dream is estimated to cost about 2,000 dollars, which Crommett plans to raise in the next couple of weeks. The club plans to split up by pairs and visit her everyday to keep her company before she passes.

This past weekend, the Dream Catchers club was hard at work granting many wishes for the residents at the Lake Forest Nursing Center, and hosting a fundraiser at the Neighborhood Cup in Aliso Viejo.

Junior Caitlin Crommett, president of Dream Catchers, spoke about the successful weekend explaining, “On Saturday, singer Mike Chamberlain sang for the residents at the nursing center, and everyone really enjoyed it. On Sunday, we raised one hundred and eighty dollars for the club, which will help us fulfill the dream of someone who has less than six months to live.”

Development for this fundraiser began in December when Jason Brown, a local photographer, read about Caitlin and her club in the OC Register online. He contacted her parents saying he wanted to contribute to her club. They decided to hold a photo exhibition, which would donate fifty percent of proceeds from every photograph purchased, to the club.

“It was great to be a part of something that helps people so much. I am proud to be a member of this club, and help raise money for it,” Junior Shannon Donahue, a member of Dream Catchers, said.
